“A Time Machine” Within the Walls of KRU

A unique master class was held at KRU as part of the International Scientific Conference of Students and Young Researchers “Akhinjanov Readings – 2026.”

The event quite literally transported participants thousands of years back—to an era when the first technologies were just emerging.

Research fellow of the A.Kh. Margulan Institute of Archaeology, Kanat Eskendirov, did more than simply talk about ancient tools—he demonstrated how they were created virtually “from scratch.”

From the very first minutes, students were immersed in the atmosphere of the Stone Age.

Kanat Ziyatovich explained how, during the Paleolithic era, an ordinary piece of stone in the hands of an ancient human could be transformed into a weapon or a tool.

He подробно described flaking techniques, the specifics of stone splitting, and the precision required in selecting the correct удар angle. Every movement had to be accurate; every mistake risked ruining the workpiece.

Then came the most captivating part. Right before the students’ eyes, knives, scrapers, and bifaces began to emerge from stone—the very tools that marked the beginning of human civilization. The process proved not only visually impressive but also highly demanding in terms of precision: it required careful control of force, timing, and strict adherence to safety measures.

KRU students watched with genuine fascination, as what unfolded before them was not just academic material, but living history—something they could truly connect with.

This interest quickly turned into a desire to try it themselves. After the demonstration, students were given the opportunity to create their own stone tools, experiencing firsthand how complex and meticulous the process truly is.

This master class served as a reminder that even the simplest things were once the result of hard work, knowledge, and experience. Perhaps it is precisely such encounters that help us rethink the path humanity has taken—from stone to modern technologies.
