In Honor of Galikhan Zhanturin

A Republican scientific and practical conference for master’s and undergraduate students was held at KRU, dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the distinguished scholar and educator Galikhan Zhanturin.

The name of Galikhan Zhantoreuly holds a special place in the history of national education. Since 1951, he worked at the pedagogical institute and became one of the first lecturers of the History of Kazakhstan—at that time the discipline was known as “History of the Kazakh SSR.”

His contribution to the formation of national historical thinking is difficult to overestimate: Zhanturin educated an entire generation of students, instilling in them an interest in and respect for the history of their country.

Coming from an интеллигентная and well-off family, he was distinguished by a broad outlook and a high level of education. He was fluent in Kazakh, Russian, and Arabic. In 1969, he successfully defended his doctoral dissertation.

In 2006, on the occasion of his 90th anniversary, a named classroom was opened in the pedagogical institute in his honor. This year, the scholar’s children renovated it and presented the university with a modern interactive board.

As part of the conference, KRU Rector Seitbek Kuanyshbayev presented letters of appreciation to Zhanturin’s family, recognizing their contribution to preserving and promoting the scholar’s legacy.

The scientific program included a plenary session and thematic sections. Participants discussed Zhanturin’s life, teaching, and research activities. In total, 49 presentations were delivered.

The conference brought together students and master’s students from leading universities of Kazakhstan, including L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, K. Zhubanov Aktobe Regional University, S. Seifullin Kazakh Agrotechnical Research University, as well as students of S. Maulenov Gymnasium in Kostanay.

The scholar’s son, Marat Zhanturin, awarded the authors of the best presentations with commemorative gifts.
