The Art of Teaching Mathematics

Baitursynuly University hosted a training seminar on solving Olympiad-level mathematics problems as part of the “Panorama of Innovations – 2026.”

The event was organized jointly by the Kostanay Daryny Regional Educational and Methodological Center of the Kostanay Region Education Department and the Department of Physics, Mathematics, and Digital Technologies of the university.

The seminar brought together 28 mathematics teachers and Olympiad training coaches from various cities and districts of the Kostanay Region.

Faculty members of the university served as speakers and trainers.

The program consisted of five sessions and covered topics such as number theory (including Diophantine equations and Euler’s and Fermat’s theorems), methods for proving algebraic inequalities, and the use of invariants in combinatorics and logic.

Special attention was given to overcoming psychological barriers faced by school students when solving complex geometry problems, as well as to the application of the “area method” in advanced geometry.

During the seminar, participants discussed not only student preparation but also the current professional needs of practicing mathematics teachers and future educators.

In particular, the importance of integrating Olympiad mathematics and advanced teaching strategies into university curricula was emphasized.

Participants put forward several professional recommendations, noting that the inclusion of courses focused on Olympiad problem-solving would help future teachers develop the competencies necessary for effective work with gifted students from the early stages of their training.

The event concluded with a Q&A session, during which participants discussed criteria for evaluating Olympiad solutions.

All attendees received certificates of successful completion and were granted access to an extensive electronic database of Olympiad resources and books for further study.
