Gifts from the University of Minnesota

Students of Baitursynuly University met with a representative of the U.S. Embassy.

Colin Guard, Cultural and Educational Affairs Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Kazakhstan, paid a working visit to Baitursynuly University in Kostanay.

Earlier this summer, an official ceremony was held in Kostanay to sign a memorandum and agreement on dual-degree education between Baitursynuly University and the University of Minnesota Morris (USA).

The dual-degree program in 6B06104 Computer Science (General Educational Program B057 “Information Technologies”) allows students to study at both universities. Upon graduation, students will receive two diplomas.

This collaboration offers Kostanay students a unique opportunity to gain world-class knowledge and experience.

This academic year, 10 students from the Department of Software Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Energy, and IT, have begun their studies under the dual-degree program.

During his visit, Colin Guard met with the students and presented them with branded University of Minnesota t-shirts, a gift from Janet Ericksen, President of the American university.

In turn, Baitursynuly University Rector Seitbek Kuanyshbayev presented a commemorative book, published this fall to mark the university's 85th anniversary, to the U.S. guest.

“We are very pleased that you visited our university,” said Seitbek Kuanyshbayev. “Next year, we plan to visit the University of Minnesota. I am confident that the experience of this American university will significantly benefit our youth and contribute to the development of educational processes at Baitursynuly University.”

Colin Guard expressed his gratitude for the hospitality, saying:

“I really liked the city of Kostanay. I see that Americans and Kazakhs share common values: we cherish our families, love freedom and independence, and strive to build a better future than the past.”
