As part of the DECIDE Erasmus+ international project “Development of Services for People with Disabilities,” from October 7 to 17, the Department of Psychology at Baitursynuly Kostanay Regional University held the Second Awareness Decade.
The event aimed to promote the social model of disability, a key priority in building an inclusive society. This model focuses on developing the potential, abilities, and intellectual capacities of people with disabilities by removing all barriers—architectural, social, and psychological. Achieving this requires informational and educational activities that foster an inclusive culture based on respect, tolerance, and the prevention of discrimination.
During the Awareness Decade, educational organizations across the region—kindergartens, schools, colleges, and universities—hosted age-appropriate activities, including:
Additionally, NGOs across the region conducted monitoring of the satisfaction of people with disabilities regarding social services and the accessibility of education for children with special needs.
To further promote inclusion, psychology students of Baitursynuly University carried out street interviews and distributed over 1,000 informational flyers. The Department, together with partners, also created digital materials—including banners, captioned videos, video clips, and slideshows—shared on seven online platforms.
All activities were carried out in close collaboration with local authorities, NGOs, sponsors, and volunteers, with the central message:
“We Are Different, We Are Equal, We Are Together.”
