Seminar on Political Reprisals

Baitursynuly University alongside the Department of Public Development of the Akimat of Kostanay region held a national semin on “Current Issues in Organizing Scientific Research on Political Repression Victims Rehabilitation.”

The event was attended by the representatives of al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Omirkhan Baikonurov Zhezkazgan University, Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University, Sh Ualikhanov Kokshetau University.   

As a matter of fact, in November 2020, Kazakhstan established a State Commission for Full Rehabilitation of Political Repression Victims. Several Baitursynuly University historians joined a similar commision, which was crated in our region. The members of the commission at the legal and political rehabilitation of political repression victims, restoring historical justice for all innocent Kazakhstanis. Some time ago, Kostanay historians published a monograph compiling data on bai's and kulaks' property being confistaced, on the Batpakkar 1929 uprising, and people being deported.

The participants of the seminar presented up-to-date reports on the topic. Importantly, our university’s scholars contributed a lot of work to the state and the archives. They thereby uncover previously unknown documents on political repression victims, create and expand the virtual map of mass burial sites, and sustain a database of illegally repressed citizens. During the discussion, the participants exchanged their views and identified new promising directions for on political repression scientific research in Kazakhstan.
