Conference dedicated to outstanding jurists

Baitursynuly University hosted an international scientific and practical conference titled "Civilizational Security of Society and Humanity in the Framework of the Rule of Law," dedicated to the memory of distinguished jurists Sergey Alekseev and Nagashbay Shaykenov.

The event brought together their students and colleagues, as well as leading experts in the field of law from Kazakhstan and Russia. Many attendees now hold prominent positions in government institutions, law enforcement agencies, the judiciary, and universities. A special guest at the conference was Lydia Shaykenova, the wife of Nagashbay Amangaliyevich, who expressed her gratitude to the organizers for the warm welcome and the large-scale event.

The delegation from the Ural State Law University named after V. F. Yakovlev included many professors who were once students of Sergey Alekseev.

"I was fortunate enough to attend Sergey Sergeyevich's lectures," Roman Bryukhov shared, Associate Professor at the Department of Theory of State and Law at the Russian university. "As students, we felt as though we were learning a profound wisdom. The professor’s lectures were so captivatingly quiet that one could hear a fly buzz."

Incidentally, Nagashbay Shaykenov, who held posts such as the Minister of Justice of Kazakhstan, Deputy Prime Minister, and other high-ranking positions, was also a student of Sergey Alekseev.

"Nagashbay Shaykenov and I were friends, colleagues, and worked together on legal reforms," Professor Maidan Suleimenov said, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan and Director of the Institute of Private Law at Caspian University. "Both Shaykenov and Alekseev were scholars by nature. They devoted their entire lives to advocating for the idea of the rule of law."

The philosophical and politico-legal ideas of Sergey Alekseev and Nagashbay Shaykenov became the central themes of the conference presentations. Additionally, the speakers debated the state of the modern legal system and identified trends in the evolution of law amid globalization.
