Following the memorandum on joint scientific activities between KRU and the Astana Botanical Garden, the botanical garden’s staff visited the Herbarium Collection of the KSPI at the U. Sultangazin Pedagogical Institute’s Department of Natural Science Disciplines between November 25 and December 6, 2022.
Together with the department’s scholars Yuri Perezhogin and Olga Borodulina, the Astana guests conducted an audit of the herbarium collections and studied the distribution of certain plant groups in the Kostanay region. The guests rated the department’s research very highly.
Additionally, several new plans for joint research on the flora and vegetation of Northern Kazakhstan have been outlined for the near future. Serik Kubentaev, Head of the Laboratory of Flora and Plant Resources and PhD, invited the Kostanay scholars to visit the herbarium of the Astana Botanical Garden. This herbarium was created in 2019 and has already been included in the “Index Herbariorum” system under the acronym ‘NUR.’
