Conference on the Study and Conservation of the Asian Steppes

The Pedagogical Institute of Kostanay Regional University named after A. Baitursynov is organizing the International Scientific Conference on the Study and Conservation of Biological Diversity of the Asian Steppes for the fourth time.

The herbaceous ecosystems of Eurasia are the repository of a unique gene pool that has been formed for millions of years. Steppe landscapes have played an exceptional role in the evolution of human civilization. Taking into account the high degree of uniqueness of the Kazakh steppes, in 2008 it was decided to include the steppe territories of Kazakhstan in the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the site "Saryarka - Steppes and Lakes of Northern Kazakhstan" (Naurzum and Korgalzhinsky reserves).

The reports of the conference participants set out the results of research and prospects for the conservation of biological diversity of steppe ecosystems, island and ribbon forests and wetlands of the steppe zone of Eurasia, the protection of natural areas and populations of species of special conservation importance, the formation of an ecological network, the integration of natural sciences and education and the contribution of universities to the study of biodiversity.
