On February 2, many countries around the world observe the International Day of Wetlands. The Pedagogical Institute named after U. Sultangazin at KRU traditionally supports this initiative.
Since 2004, the Department of Natural Sciences has held annual thematic events with undergraduate and graduate students in various formats. This year, alumni were invited to participate.
A round table on the topic “Wetlands of International Importance. Ramsar Convention” gathered over 50 participants, including bachelor’s and master’s students of the Biology, Chemistry, and Geography programs. Teachers from Gymnasium No. 21 and No. 10 in Rudny, School-Gymnasium No. 3 in Kostanay, representatives of medical institutions, and members of the Kazakhstan Association for Biodiversity Conservation (KABC) also attended.
The event was organized by the Research Center for Ecology and Biology Problems (RC EBP), Dr. Tatiana Bragina, Professor at KRU, Senior Lecturer Maria Rulyeva, and the department’s Birdwatchers Club.
Professor Bragina presented a report on the International Day of Wetlands and Kazakhstan’s achievements in conserving key aquatic ecosystems as a foundation for biodiversity preservation. Graduate biology students Kristina Antonova, Olga Vorobyova, Igor Mironov, and Vitaliy Tabunkin shared their research on aquatic ecosystems and their bird fauna.
The final presentation was made by 3rd-year student Daniil Khristinetsky, who spoke about expedition studies in the Mangistau region within the framework of international projects.
The event concluded with discussions and an exchange of ideas.
