AI Week: About Us and Our Future

AI Week has officially started at Baitursynuly University. The opening seminar featured international scholars and kicked off the university’s celebration of Artificial Intelligence Week.

At the Smart Center of the university, the most advanced students and educators gathered to participate.

The seminar’s topic was: “Artificial Intelligence: Challenges and Prospects.”

Speakers:

• Professor Peter Dolan, University of Minnesota Morris, USA
• Deokjae Lee, Software Department Lecturer, South Korea

Key points of the seminar included:

• History and development of AI – Peter Dolan discussed key milestones in artificial intelligence, from expert systems to modern technologies.
• Machine learning and applications – how models learn from data and are applied to real-world problems, from image analysis to trend prediction.
• Modern AI technologies – computer vision, natural language processing, and recommendation systems widely used in economics and education.
• ChatGPT and generative models – opportunities and challenges associated with large language models.
• The role of AI in the future – Deokjae Lee emphasized AI as a driver of technological progress, illustrating examples from Terminator 2 to distinguish science fiction from real technology.

Deokjae Lee also explained the architecture and principles of language models and their potential applications in education, science, and business.

Both speakers highlighted that AI is a key technology of the 21st century, and Kazakhstan has enormous potential in this field with active participation from universities and research centers.

The seminar sparked lively discussions among students and educators and became an excellent platform for exploring the technologies of the future.
