In his article “Independence Is Above All” ("Тәуелсіздік бәрінен қымбат"), the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, set forth specific tasks to refine knowledge of national history among the country’s historians. In this regard, work is currently underway on publishing a 7-volume academic edition.
Currently, the 5th volume, “Modern Kazakhstan History (18th – Early 20th Centuries),” is already being prepared.
At the recent International Scientific and Practical Online Conference “Current Issues in National History in Modern Times,” held by the Sh. Ualikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology, Aibek Shalghimbekov, a Candidate of Historical Sciences from the Department of Social and Humanitarian Sciences of KRU, presented a paper on “The Construction of Military-Stronghold Lines by the Russian Empire in the Northern Kazakhstan in the Second Half of the 18th Century – the First Third of the 19th Century.”
The volume will also include the work Otegen Isenov, the Candidate of Historical Sciences of KRU, on the topic of “The Russian Empire: Tarhanship in Kazakh Society.” ("Ресей империясы: қазақ қоғамындағы тархандық").
This publication will form a scientific foundation for a new state standard in the history of Kazakhstan as a discipline, as well as for textbooks and educational materials for secondary, vocational, and higher educational institutions, all school curricula, and university textbooks on Kazakhstan history.
