The Task Is EFFECTIVE Management

Today, within the framework of the “Winter School” project, Baitursynuly University hosted a seminar titled “Academic Governance”, dedicated to current issues in department management.

The participants of the event were heads of academic departments of the University.

During the seminar, key aspects of human resources policy in departmental management were discussed, along with regulatory and legal support for the activities of department heads and issues related to preparing departments for inspections and accreditation procedures.

Special attention was given to practical issues concerning the application of the labor legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, qualification requirements, the professional standard for university instructors, and the University’s local regulatory legal acts.

The discussion emphasized that the head of a department is a key managerial link in ensuring legality and the quality of the educational process.

The responsibilities of a department head include the correct allocation of teaching workload, authorization of instructors to teach courses and deliver lectures, compliance with competitive recruitment procedures, monitoring the validity and relevance of employment contracts, and organizing professional development for academic staff.

The scope of responsibility also includes compliance with established percentage indicators related to academic degrees, primary place of employment, and practical experience in the implementation of bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs.

Presentations and practical case studies were delivered by Elena Kniga, Head of the Human Resources Management Department; Gulnara Ismailova, Head of the Academic Policy and Teaching Activities Office; and Ayaguz Beksultanova, Head of the Planning and Organization of the Educational Process Department.

The seminar was conducted in the format of an active professional dialogue and became an effective platform for sharing experience and discussing current management practices in higher and postgraduate education.

The seminar concluded with an interactive Kahoot game with prizes, allowing participants to test and consolidate their newly acquired knowledge in a gamified format.
