A representative of Baitursynuly University introduced Lithuania’s academic community to Kazakhstan during a series of lectures at Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas.
Nagima Manasbayeva, Head of the Office for Internationalization and Academic Mobility at Baitursynuly University, represented Kazakhstan during the Erasmus+ International Staff Week.
The event brought together 147 participants from more than 50 countries.
As part of the Erasmus+ program, Nagima Shotbayevna delivered lectures to Lithuanian undergraduate and graduate students on English grammar and literature, also sharing the findings of her linguistic research on the pragmatic features of diminutive adjectives in languages of different structures.
“International academic mobility is always a valuable new experience,” noted our colleague. “When I asked Lithuanian students what they knew about Kazakhstan, someone immediately said, ‘You have two capitals!’”
During her lectures, she shared facts about Kazakhstan that sparked great interest among the Lithuanian students. They were especially impressed by the vast size of the country and intrigued to learn that Kazakhstan, though landlocked, has its own “sea.”
They also loved Kazakh chocolate. While sharing local sweets, Nagima Manasbayeva told the legend of Bayan Sulu and Kozy Korpesh, and spoke about Kazakhstan’s Day of Love, inspired by this story.
She was also delighted to reconnect with Baitursynuly University students and Professor Alexandra Tegza, who are currently studying and teaching in Lithuania as part of academic mobility programs.
