A regional Korean Language Proficiency Contest was recently held at Baitursynuly University.
This speaking competition is organized worldwide through all King Sejong Institutes — centers dedicated to promoting Korean language and culture.
“Our institute in Kostanay has been operating for only a year, but we couldn’t miss such a great opportunity for our students and course participants to showcase their skills,”
noted Nagima Manasbayeva, Head of the King Sejong Institute of Korean Language and Culture at Baitursynuly University.
In preparation for the contest, participants practiced their pronunciation individually with Instructor Lee Chihoon for two weeks — completely free of charge.
The competition took place on May 15, coinciding with the birthday of King Sejong, the founder of the Korean alphabet and written language.
“The influence and importance of the Korean language in Kostanay are becoming increasingly noticeable,”
emphasized Nagima Shotbayevna.
“With the arrival of major companies such as KIA and its partners in the region, there is a growing demand for professionals who speak Korean. Our institute is proud to support this need by preparing qualified specialists.”
One notable example is a Baitursynuly University student who, after completing a Korean language course, began working at KCC Corporation, a South Korean manufacturer of chemical and automotive components.
Thanks to their Korean language skills, many Baitursynuly University students are successfully completing internships abroad and receiving offers for well-paid positions.
The winner of the regional stage of the contest was Yeldana Murat, a student of Baitursynuly University. She will represent Kostanay in the national round among 156 participating schools.
The world final winner will receive a scholarship to study at a Korean university, as well as a cultural tour to South Korea.
And don’t forget — Korean language courses at Baitursynuly University are completely free and open to all residents of the region!
