Today, students of the Faculty of Social and Humanitarian Sciences at KRU met with Professor Gülsüm Songül Ercan (Dokuz Eylül University, Turkey).
As part of academic mobility, this leading Turkish linguist, an expert in discourse analysis, socio-, pragma- and gender linguistics, came to KRU.
The purpose of her visit is to share knowledge with KRU faculty, deliver lectures and seminars, and enhance students’ research skills.
The lecture began with students’ questions:
“What kind of people live in Izmir?”
– “Friendly, like me.”
“Do students face a language barrier?”
– “Yes, studying linguistics in a foreign language is more difficult—there are many terms.”
Then the guest professor asked her own question:
“What did you expect from the visit of a foreign professor?”
Students answered:
“The opportunity to meet you, learn from your experience, and strengthen our knowledge of linguistics.”
The meeting touched on the challenges of linguistics, academic writing, and alphabet reforms in Kazakhstan and Turkey.
Important: Professor Ercan will be working at KRU until October 15. Don’t miss the chance to meet an expert and sharpen your knowledge.
