This academic year, Baitursynuly University has welcomed a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant – Alexander Dvornikovsky. He’ll be with us for ten months: English lessons, a Speaking Club, debates, and plenty of face-to-face interaction!
Who is he?
We recently held an introductory meeting with Alexander. Students asked many interesting — and even personal questions:
Have you tried traditional Kazakh food?
“The day before yesterday I had samsa. Very tasty! Now I want to try beshbarmak.”
Is it true there’s no school uniform in the US?
“It depends on the region and the school. We didn’t have one, but some, especially private schools – do.”
Which subjects matter most in education?
“History. It’s the foundation of everything – past, present and future. Through history we learn not to repeat mistakes and to move forward.”
Students on KRU’s teacher-training track and in Computer Science will be able to take practice-oriented English courses with the new tutor. A weekly Speaking Club is open to everyone, and a Debate Club is planned to develop critical thinking.
Some sessions are held at the American Corner based at the L. Tolstoy Library.
Don’t miss your chance to be part of international engagement at KRU!
