Along the Flyway of the Red-breasted Goose

A renowned ornithologist delivered a lecture for students of Baitursynuly University.

The meeting was held at the Department of Natural Sciences of the Pedagogical Institute of KRU as part of the activities of the student birdwatching club. Future biologists had the opportunity to speak with Alexey Timoshenko, head of the regional branch of the Kazakhstan Association for the Conservation of Biodiversity (АСБК) and director of “Alty-Sai,” the first eco-park in Kazakhstan.

Alexey Timoshenko is a member of several international working groups studying the avifauna of Northern Eurasia, a leading wildlife monitoring specialist at АСБК, and a member of the Menzbir Ornithological Society.

During the lecture, the guest presented the results of an international project titled “Conservation of Key Sites for the Red-breasted Goose Along Its Migration Route.” The project aims to protect this globally threatened species and is being implemented in Romania (as a wintering site) and Kazakhstan (as an important staging and resting area along the flyway).

He also spoke about modern methods used in ornithological research and recent scientific advancements, emphasizing the importance of student involvement as volunteers in scientific projects.
