From April 13-14, 2023, the XV Republican Student Subject Olympiad in the state educational program - Training of Biology Teachers was held in the city of Oral, at the Mahambet Utemisov West Kazakhstan University, where 15 teams from universities across Kazakhstan participated. KRU was represented by students from the “Biology-Chemistry” program, second-year student Darkhan Baybulatov and third-year student Yulia Priyezhih, along with the team leader, Maria Ruleva, Master of Biology and Senior Lecturer at the Department of Natural Sciences.
The Olympiad consisted of 3 rounds: homework (preparation of a video fragment of a biology lesson in school), theoretical, and practical. The Olympiad tasks included subject-specific tasks from the following disciplines: genetics, molecular biology, plant systematics, zoology, human anatomy, physiology, and the methodology of teaching biology. Our students excelled in their assignments!
Based on the results of the Olympiad, only 3 students out of 30 participants received awards in the individual competition, among them Darkhan Baybulatov. Out of 15 university teams, only 6 were awarded prizes. The KRU team took second place.
