BES: Leading the Future of Engineering Education

Astana hosts key discussions on the development of Breakthrough Engineering Schools (BES).

On April 16-17, Astana IT University welcomed representatives from 10 regional universities – including Baitursynuly University – for discussions on establishing BES.

In today’s rapidly evolving world of science and technology, a key mission of higher education is to train a new generation of engineers – not just technical experts, but future leaders equipped with project management skills, interdisciplinary thinking, and an understanding of business processes.

Global experience – from institutions like MIT, the Technical University of Munich, and KAIST – proves the success of specialized engineering schools that emphasize project-based learning, flexible academic paths, and strong industry partnership.

The BES model also takes regional needs into account. With its strong industrial and agricultural sectors, Kostanay Region requires highly qualified professionals to ensure sustainable growth. Baitursynuly University is well-prepared to support this initiative – with a strong scientific foundation, experience in engineering education, and established partnerships with local enterprises.

The creation of BES at KRU will enhance the quality of engineering education in the region. It will help prepare specialists who can solve real-world economic challenges, drive innovation, and contribute to the sustainable development of Kostanay Region.
