A CLASSROOM DEDICATED TO PROFESSOR TERNOVOY

Today, in the main building of Baitursynuly University, a new classroom named in honor of Professor Ivan Ternovoy was officially opened.

Starting from the new academic year, this classroom will host courses for future historians.

The event was dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Ivan Kondratyevich Ternovoy — a respected educator, scholar, professor, and author of several historical books about the Kostanay region.

The opening ceremony brought together representatives of the historical and pedagogical communities, local archives, and regional universities — and, of course, the guest of honor himself, accompanied by his family.

Professor Ternovoy, together with Rector of Baitursynuly University, Dr. Seitbek Kuanyshbayev, were the first to enter the newly named classroom. They sat at the students’ desks, looked around, and smiled — “Just like students again,” someone remarked warmly.

During the ceremony, representatives of the Regional Archive presented a biographical overview of Professor Ternovoy’s life and achievements.

He began his studies in 1957, enrolling at the Pedagogical Institute that would later become his lifelong home. Here, Ivan Kondratyevich started his teaching career, later serving as Head of Department, Dean of Faculty, Vice-Rector, and ultimately as Rector of the Kostanay Pedagogical Institute.

Mazhit Shulenov, Deputy Akim (Mayor) of Kostanay, conveyed his congratulations:

“On behalf of Akim Marat Zhundubayev — who, by the way, was once your student — I am pleased to congratulate you, Ivan Kondratyevich, on your anniversary. It is wonderful to see the warm atmosphere in which the university welcomes you. You are loved and respected here — and rightfully so.”

Rector Seitbek Kuanyshbayev emphasized that naming the classroom after Professor Ternovoy is a significant event for the entire university:

“Ivan Kondratyevich has made an immense contribution to the development of our university and the regional education system. We are deeply grateful, and in honor of his anniversary, we decided to open this dedicated classroom to preserve his legacy for future generations.”

“Let this classroom remind our students of your lifelong service and achievements,” he added. “And let’s make a promise to meet here again — in your classroom — to celebrate your 100th birthday!”
