Focus on Mechanical Engineering: A Promising Field

A delegation from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to Kazakhstan visited Baitursynuly University.

The purpose of the visit to the Akhmet Baitursynuly Kostanay Regional University was to strengthen bilateral relations in education and science and to discuss joint projects and future collaboration opportunities.

The delegation, consisting of Gu Kyoyoung, First Secretary of the Economic Department of the Embassy, Bae Byeongwan, an economic expert, and Gulnur Abdikarimova, Chief Specialist on Energy and Infrastructure, was welcomed by the university’s rector, Seitbek Kuanyshbayev.

“We are now in the walls of the largest university in the region, which celebrated its 85th anniversary this year,” the rector said. “In recent years, the university has actively collaborated with South Korea. In August, during an intergovernmental meeting between Korea’s Minister of Education, Ju-Ho Lee, and Kazakhstan’s Minister of Science and Higher Education, Sayasat Nurbek, an agreement was signed in Seoul on a dual-degree program between Baitursynuly University and Dong-Eui University. Additionally, our students study in South Korea through academic mobility programs. This cooperation enables us to train highly qualified specialists in mechanical engineering, including for the KIA factory, which is set to launch next year.”

The rector highlighted that Korean language courses began at Kostanay Regional University this academic year. In August, the university received certification for opening the King Sejong Institute, which now teaches Korean to 65 participants, including local residents, students, and employees of the KIA plant.

“Our countries' cooperation continues to expand,” Gu Kyoyoung concluded. “Today’s meeting impressed me, particularly the focus on training specialists for KIA. It’s encouraging that your university emphasizes mechanical engineering—one of the most promising industries.”

In closing, Seitbek Kuanyshbayev affirmed that Kostanay Regional University is always open to new proposals.
