A Chinese delegation, led by Professor Shan Weixing, the dean of the Agricultural Faculty at Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University (NWAFU), visited A. Baitursynuly Kostanay Regional University (KRU) in a reciprocal visit. In September, KRU's delegation, headed by Rector Seitbek Kuanysbaev, visited NWAFU, one of China's top agricultural universities, where a mutual cooperation agreement was signed.
Both sides have now met in Kostanay to discuss collaboration details in agronomy, veterinary medicine, ecology, and biology. KRU has developed a roadmap outlining the various directions in which both universities will work. Besides traditional student and faculty internships and academic mobility programs, there are plans to establish an agro-center jointly with NWAFU on KRU's premises. This center will conduct various research on new agricultural crops in a pilot field. A joint laboratory for virus-free seed material for potatoes will be established based on the Research Institute of Applied Biotechnology. KRU scientists will travel to China soon for internships, beginning research work from May 2024.
During the discussion, both parties agreed to form working groups to develop dual-degree master's programs for KRU and NWAFU.
Today, the Chinese guests visited university buildings, IT Hub, observed the laboratories of the Research Institute of Applied Biotechnology, and visited the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, where they interacted with university faculty and students.
