Today, the words of the great Akhmet Baitursynuly echoed through the Pedagogical Institute named after U. Sultangazin at Baitursynuly University.
The university hosted the national project “Ulttyq Dictant” (“National Dictation”), dedicated to the 140th anniversary of Mirzhakyp Dulatov and the Day of Languages of the People of Kazakhstan.
The event at Kostanay Regional University was organized by the Department of Language and Literature Theory.
This year’s dictation featured Akhmet Baitursynuly’s article “Oqu zhaiy” (“About Education”), first published in the Qazaq newspaper in 1913. The text consisted of 123 words.
At the Pedagogical Institute, the dictation is more than a one-time event — it is a cherished tradition that unites future philologists. This time, 174 students from the Department of Language and Literature Theory took part in the literacy challenge.
Director of the Pedagogical Institute, Kenzhegul Yesirkepova, highlighted the importance of the event:
“This project aims to raise the status of the state language and promote literacy. Its main goal is to foster a culture of competent writing in the state language and to popularize its use.”
At the end of the event, participants counted their mistakes, assessed their literacy level, and set new goals. After all, this dictation is not a race for points — it is another building block in the foundation of linguistic culture.
