Today, September 5th, marks the 151st anniversary of the birth of Ahmet Baitursynov, the scholar, founder of Kazakh linguistics and literary studies, reformer of Kazakh writing. Since 2017, his birthday has been celebrated as the Day of Languages of the Peoples of Kazakhstan.
A ceremony was held at Kostanay Regional University, proudly named after our fellow countryman, for laying flowers at the monument of Ahmet Baitursynov. Participants included students, university leadership, Baitursynov scholars, and representatives of public and state institutions. They spoke about his significant role in the establishment of Kazakh writing, statehood, and education in Kazakhstan.
Ahmet Baitursynov, born in the village of Akkol, Zhangeldin district of Kostanay region in 1872, was a Kazakh poet, Turkologist, publicist, educator, translator, and public figure. He was a leader of the national liberation movement of the Kazakh people in the early 20th century, a government official, enlightener, and a member of the executive power of Alash-Orda.
Ahmet Baitursynov was a scholar in literary studies, the author of two books, "Literary Studies," and "23 Lamentations." "Literary Studies" is the first scientific research dedicated to the study of the history of Kazakh literature.
