A Promise Fulfilled

Students and faculty from the Department of Kazakh History at the Pedagogical Institute of Kostanay Regional University (KRU) were special guests at a jubilee evening celebrating the 80th birthday of poet, writer, and educator Serikbai Ospanov.

KRU Professor Aybek Shalgimbekov noted that such events offer students a valuable opportunity to witness how spiritual values and love for one’s homeland are expressed through literature.

“The goal of this visit was to become acquainted with the works of a true master of words, to feel the living connection between generations, and to be inspired by our cultural heritage,” he shared.

Interestingly, back in their third year, these same students had studied the works of Ybyrai Altynsarin. As part of the course “Ybyrai’s Path”, they had the rare opportunity to attend a session led by Serikbai Ospanov himself. It was then that the poet promised to invite them to his anniversary — and he kept his word.

The evening unfolded in an atmosphere filled with creativity, inspiration, and heartfelt emotions. Songs, poetry, and personal stories were shared. When the legendary “Sağyndym Almatymdy” began to play, the audience came alive — many joined in singing, smiling warmly and reminiscing.
