Internship Field: Food Safety

The objectives of the research internship were fully achieved, and all assigned tasks were successfully completed.
Within the framework of the internship, modern approaches to ensuring the safety of products of animal origin were studied through monitoring bacteria along the food chain. Applied research in the field of food safety was conducted, including the study of phenotypic and genotypic resistance of bacteria to antimicrobial agents isolated from raw materials. In addition, educational experience was analyzed, and international partnerships between universities were established to ensure sustainable integration, strengthening, and cooperation in various areas of professional training.
During the internship period, the trainee participated in the following activities:
- April 24–25, 2024 Participation in the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Spring Education 2024: How Not to Get Lost in the Labyrinth of Simulations?”
- April 26, 2024 Participation in the Congress of Lithuanian Microbiologists and the Scientific Conference “Microbiology 2024.”
- April 30, 2024 Participation in the preliminary defense of Master’s theses of second-year graduate students.
- May 14–15, 2024 Attendance at lectures delivered by scholars from the University of Teramo (Italy, Pisa) on the topic “Application of Artificial Intelligence in Veterinary Practice.”
- May 30, 2024 Participation in the Scientific Conference “Antibiotic Resistance. Improving the Quality of Life of Cows Using Active Plant Compounds.”
- June 19, 2024 Participation in the International Scientific Conference “One Health: Challenges of Food Safety.”
- May 18, 2024 Visit to the Zoological Park and Zoological Museum to study best practices in using park resources for educational and research activities of undergraduate and graduate students.
- April 17, 2024 Visit to the Practical Training and Testing Center for Veterinarians (PMBC) and the Wildlife Care Center (LGGC) at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences.
- April 26, 2024 Meeting with the Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science, Professor E. Bartknienė, and the Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Professor R. Stankevičius, to discuss cooperation in joint scientific research and veterinary personnel training.
- May 20, 2024 Visit to a livestock complex to study the implementation of HACCP standards.
- May 28, 2024 Visit to the National Milk Research Center “Pieno Tyrimai” to study European practices in milk analysis (Kaunas, Lithuania).
- May 29, 2024 Visit to a breeding sheep farm preserving the genetic pool of the Lithuanian sheep breed to study slaughter technology and the implementation of HACCP standards in cooperation with the LSMU Institute of Animal Science.
- May 30, 2024 Visit to the fish processing company “NORVELITA” and the fish farm “Raseiniu Žuvininkystė” to study the implementation of HACCP standards and production control methods.
The internship was conducted in accordance with the approved individual training schedule. As a result of the research activities, one manuscript was prepared for submission to a Scopus-indexed international journal, one article was published in a journal included in the list of the Committee for Quality Assurance in Science and Higher Education of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and materials were collected for the preparation of a laboratory practice textbook.
