The King Sejong Institute of Korean Language and Culture

The King Sejong Institute is a public organization under the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of the Republic of Korea. The Sejong Institute (Sejonghakdang) is a cultural and educational project focused on providing comprehensive information, educational, and methodological support for students and professors of Korean studies. It also coordinates and standardizes the Korean studies curriculum for foreign students.

The institution is named after King Sejong the Great, the fourth king of the Joseon Dynasty, who invented the Korean alphabet in 1446.

The Institute not only teaches the Korean language but also introduces people to Korean culture. Despite its relatively short history, it has already become a recognizable brand in the global education system. Its educational centers are geographically comparable to the Goethe Institute or the Cervantes Institute. Today, Sejonghakdang is a vast network of 153 offices in 58 countries around the world, with its headquarters in Seoul.

The branch in Kostanay was opened in 2024 at the Akhmet Baitursynuly Kostanay Regional University in partnership with Dong-Eui University.
