For training under the reserve officer military training programs, applications are submitted by students from different years of study depending on the duration of the bachelor's educational program, as follows:
- First-year students – those enrolled in a 3-year bachelor's degree program, including students in programs with reduced study duration;
- First- and second-year students – those enrolled in a 4-year bachelor's degree program;
- First-, second-, and third-year students – those enrolled in 5-year and 6-year bachelor's degree programs.
For training under the reserve sergeant military training programs, applications are submitted by students from different years of study depending on the duration of the bachelor's educational program, as follows:
- First-year students – those enrolled in a 2-year bachelor’s program (programs with reduced study duration);
- First- and second-year students – those enrolled in a 3-year bachelor’s program;
- First-, second-, and third-year students – those enrolled in a 4-year bachelor’s program;
- First-, second-, third-, and fourth-year students – those enrolled in 5-year and 6-year bachelor’s programs.
Students who have completed compulsory military service are admitted to military training without competition and free of charge (under the state educational order) after undergoing medical examination.
Student admission to military training programs is carried out by the higher education institution (hereinafter – the service provider) that hosts the Military Department.
A student wishing to participate in the selection process for training at the Military Department must submit an application starting from February 1 of the admission year through the e-government web portal www.egov.kz (hereinafter – the portal), signed with a digital signature or authenticated via a one-time password if the applicant’s mobile number is linked to the portal account.
If applying through the service provider, the student must additionally submit required documents.
Applications are accepted until September 30 of the admission year.
Stages of the Selection Process
- Medical examination in accordance with the Rules for Military Medical Expertise and the Regulation on Military Medical Examination Bodies in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan, approved by the Order of the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 373 dated July 2, 2015;
- Professional and psychological testing;
- Physical fitness assessment;
- Competitive selection based on a rating score calculated and approved by the university administration.
Grounds for Disqualification from the Selection Stages
- Students found unfit by the military medical commission are not allowed to proceed to further stages.
- Students not recommended based on psychological testing results are not allowed to take the physical fitness tests.
- Students who fail the physical fitness tests are excluded from the competition.
(Failure includes scoring fewer than 8 points in total for the three physical exercises, or withdrawing from the test—considered an automatic failure.)
Completion of Military Training
Military training concludes with field training (camp) one year before university graduation.
- Reserve Officer Training Program: military training concludes with a field training camp one year before graduation.
- Reserve Sergeant Training Program: same rule applies.
Awarding of Military Ranks
- Upon completion of training under the Reserve Officer Training Program, students are awarded the rank of Reserve Lieutenant.
- Upon completion of training under the Reserve Sergeant Training Program, students are awarded the rank of Reserve Junior Sergeant.
Students Eligible for Grants
- Free training is available to students ranked from the first position up to the number of places allocated under the admission plan.
- (Reserve Officer Training Program – no free (grant) places provided.)
- (Reserve Sergeant Training Program – free places are available.)
