Camilla Zhakupova, a student of the Department of Social and Humanitarian Disciplines at KRU named after A. Baitursynov, participated in the X-th anniversary International Military-Historical Expedition "Western Front. Warsaw Highway," held from August 10 to 24, 2023, in the Baryatinsky District of the Kaluga Region, Russia. Camilla is a volunteer of the Kazakh search movement "Atamnyn Atamany."
The expedition involved more than 600 activists from various regions of Russia, servicemen from the 90th Special Search Battalion of the Russian Ministry of Defense, and representatives from Kazakhstan, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Latvia, and Moldova.
During the expedition, a "Searcher School" was organized, including classes on military archaeology, search documentation design, and working with the website of the All-Russian Information and Search Center. Practical sessions taught participants to handle metal detectors and probes, read soldiers' medallions, and learn anthropological features of human skeletons for future practical application. Young searchers received certificates after passing the final test.
Simultaneously, experienced search squads searched for the remains of Red Army soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War. Thematic round tables, creative evenings, presentations of search squads, demonstrations of war-themed films, historical quizzes, and interactive reconstruction sites were organized for all participants throughout the expedition. Major General Marat Nagumanov and Lieutenant General Bulat Darbekov awarded certificates and personalized T-shirts to the members of the "Atamnyn Atamany" search squad during the expedition's closing ceremony.
