Sewing well not against the law

Is your clothing out of fashion? Instead of throwing it away, why not show them off on the catwalk! That's exactly what the students of Baitursynuly University did.

As a result an upcycling event was organized by our club "Ecolife" in collaboration with entrepreneur Dinar Shadrina.

The unconventional collection was designed by the students Kamila Kajimuratova and Daria Kim. The girls drew inspiration from ethnic motifs, applying prints with paint or embroidery.

"I position myself as a person from two worlds - fashion and ecology," Kamila Kajymuratova says. "Upcycling is the point where they converge. Today's show is our response to 'fast' fashion that pollutes the world with tons of textiles."

Transformed jeans, tubeteikas, shoppers, and dresses were showcased by the students from the Department of Biology, Ecology, and Chemistry at KRU. All participants of the event received symbolic gifts from the leader of the "Ecolife" club, Zaida Gabbasovna Zhokusheva.

By the way, even the audience put some skin in the game bringing plastic bottles, aluminum cans, and waste paper which served as the entrance ticket to the event.
