A TRIP TO CZECH REPUBLIC WITH SAGRIS

Starting from October 22 to November 6, the SAGRIS project participants visited the Czech University of Life Sciences of Prague (CZU).

As part of the international project “Enhancement of Postgraduate Studies on Sustainable Agriculture and Future Farming Systems,” the study trip commenced for Module 2, “Crop and Livestock Systems under Climate Change.”.

The project coordinator Indira Aitjanova, Acting Associate Professor of the Department of Technology of Food Production, Doctor PhD, together with Ekaterina Ekaterinskaya, the Head of the Department of Agronomy, Dr. PhD, attended lectures of Czech scholars and doctoral seminars, as well as visited agricultural enterprises, such as Agro Podlesí dairy farm, CZU Lány farms and the “Smart Landscape” project CZU Amaile, the CZU botanical garden, the CZU Food pavilion, and the CZU forestry enterprise (located in Kostelec nad Černými lesy).

The training seminar program covered both theoretical and practical aspects of regional challenges in sustainable agricultural development.

By exchanging ideas and experiences, the participants acquired new knowledge in advanced methods of mitigating the effects of climate change on food security. Additionally, they enhanced their professional expertise in forecasting and assessing the climate change impact on production activities, productivity, and the sustainability of crop and livestock systems.

The scientists jointly examined and evaluated science-based sustainable livestock systems and animal welfare measures which are typically used under various climate change conditions for preserving the safety of livestock products while minimizing economic risks.

Finally, leading the Module 2 Professor Michal Loštak granted all the participants special certificates and summarized study trip results, during which the participants shared feedback for future cooperation.
