Today we present the third winning project of the Young Scientist competition: "The safety of lamb sold in the Kostanay retail network and the Sarcocystis spp. parasitic genus presence detection. "
Author: Zhanaidar Bermukhametov, Head of the laboratory of Research Institute of AB.
What is the project about?
It examines whether the lamb meat sold in our city’s meat markets and stores is safe to eat.
What will the researcher do?
Collect lamb meat samples, assess the degree of contamination with Sarcocystis, and conduct genetic identification of the parasite. Based on the results, the study will determine the parasitic contamination level of the lamb meat and evaluate the epizootic situation, thereby providing essential information about this infestation.
Why is this important?
This project aims to ensure the safety and quality of meat. Its findings will inform proposals to enhance prevention and control mechanisms against the spread of sarcocystosis at both regional and national levels, especially since consuming lamb meat infected with Sarcocystis may pose a serious threat, as numerous cases of intestinal and muscular sarcocystosis have been documented worldwide.
