Ecological Project with a Russian University

The Department of Natural Sciences held a scientific-practical seminar on "Monitoring of Animal Populations and Vegetation Status in Northern Eurasia," with participation from Sergey Solovyov, a senior researcher from the Laboratory of Zoological Monitoring of the Institute of Systematics and Ecology of Animals of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Novosibirsk) and a professor at the Department of Biogeography of Lomonosov Moscow State University, and Alexander Tashev, a professor at the University of Forestry (Sofia, Bulgaria).

The main focus of the seminar was on analyzing bird species inhabiting the Kostanay region. Given global warming, studying migration routes to compile a list of endangered and rare birds is crucial. The project "Research of the Current State of Fauna and Bird Populations on the Central Asian Flyway in the Baraba Forest-Steppe and Kostanay Steppe of Northern Eurasia" will be implemented by A. Baitursynov KRU and NGPU, contributing significantly to environmental studies. Kostanay and Novosibirsk scientists will use additional methods like satellite telemetry, color marking, and digital chip tags for this project.

Studying the population and distribution of vertebrates, especially those listed in the International Red Book and the Red Book of Kazakhstan, will be successfully implemented by A. Baitursynov KRU departments during the 2023 field season. Stakeholders, faculty members, and other representatives attended the seminar. Moderators were Ayan Kozhmukhametova, Maria Ruleva, and Sevara Daribayeva.
