Baitursynuly University and China's NWAFU university participate in international experiment

The delegation from Baitursynuly University visited one of the key agricultural universities in China - Northwest Agriculture and Foresty University (NWAFU). The result of the visit was a series of large-scale projects focused on research activities and academic mobility. Baitursynuly University will launch a double degree program in Agronomy in September.

The delegation included the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Erbol Issakaev, the Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Almabek Nugmanov, Associate Professor Asiya Ansabaeva, the Head of the Agronomy Department, Dinara Kultayeva, and doctoral student Meruert Medelbek.

They presented their scientific developments at the international seminar "Silkwoard workshop on sustainable Crop production" and discussed the details of collaboration with the hosting university, NWAFU. It's worth mentioning that the cooperation between NWAFU and Baitursynuly University was established within the framework of the international program "One Belt, One Road" initiated by China.

"NWAFU has been our partner since October last year," ErbolIsakaev says. "Following several visits, we have developed a Roadmap project for cooperation, which includes academic and research activities. This month, master's students from China will come to Baitursynuly University for a three-month internship.

Like Baitursynuly University, NWAFU is located in an agricultural region, so it was decided to focus on joint scientific research activities. The fields of Kostanay will become a field for an international agricultural experiment , it is planned to conduct trials of elite crops from China in May.

The experiment will be observed not only by the scientists from Baitursynuly University and NWAFU, but also the Heads of agricultural enterprise from the region. Chinese scientists will conduct refresher courses for them, sharing the latest innovations in agriculture."

In the future, this work will be continued. On the  base of Baitursynuly University, they plan to establish a Center for seed production and a joint laboratory for virus-free potato cultivation. This breakthrough is not only for the university but also for the entire agricultural sector of our region.

As noted by the President of  Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, at the opening ceremony of the plenary session of the Boao Asian Forum (Hainan), ensuring food security is the number one task today:

Almost a third of the world's population still experiences food shortages. Kazakhstan, being a leading wheat producer in Central Asia, intends to use its agricultural potential to ensure global food stability. Through collective efforts, we must strengthen international cooperation by creating targeted programs, joint agro-innovation centers, and transferring innovative technologies.

The priority remains the training of qualified personnel. Starting from the next academic year, partner universities will establish student exchanges within the framework of academic mobility. Additionally, there are plans to launch a dual-degree program in the field of Agronomy.
