For the fifth year, the "English for Professional Journalists in Kazakhstan" project, in partnership with the US Embassy in Kazakhstan, has been implemented at the university. This project supports the government's initiative to enhance the professionalism of Kazakhstani journalists and expand their knowledge of the English language as the society becomes trilingual. The project aims to support journalists in learning English and is implemented in 10 cities across Kazakhstan, bringing together over 300 journalists.
Professional journalists in Kostanay have the opportunity to start or improve their English language skills. The training is conducted in a hybrid format with both local teachers and native speakers. The 100-hour course includes not only grammar lessons but also regular events with interesting guest lecturers on current journalism topics to enhance conversational skills.
Over this time, more than 30 regional journalists have improved their spoken English skills. Among them is web editor of Kostanaynews, Alexandra Golovko, who said,
"In my opinion, learning English should be done with a native speaker. The courses are designed considering the language proficiency level and the journalist's field of work – news, television, or other media. A great emphasis is placed on speaking skills."
