The year 2024 has been declared the Year of Gerold Belger in Kazakhstan. On October 28, the writer would have turned 90 years old.
Today, at U. Sultangazin Pedagogical Institute, students of the "Russian Language and Literature" educational program spoke about the priceless legacy of the great writer, publicist, and translator Gerold Karlovich Belger, who created works in German, Kazakh, and Russian languages.
The group’s curator, Candidate of Philological Sciences Kenzhegul Segizbayeva, addressed the students with an opening speech. She shared the extraordinary story of the writer, who was deported with his family in 1941 to the Northern Kazakhstan region, his life in a Kazakh village, the challenges he faced as an ethnic German, and how he later recounted these experiences in his works.
First-year students prepared material on the writer’s literary legacy. A third-year student Aleksandra Kadzhaia shared her experience working on the topic "Autobiographical Motifs in the Works of G. Belger" under the guidance of Kenzhegul Segizbayeva.
The students showed genuine interest in a video message from Gerold Belger’s daughter, Irina, addressed to the people of Kazakhstan on the occasion of her father’s anniversary. They were also shown excerpts from the documentary "All About My Father," in which Irina Geroldovna recalls her childhood, her father, and his role in her life.
