An engaging practical session took place for biology students at Baitursynuly University. Together with Maria RULEVA, a lecturer from the Department of Natural Sciences, they visited Victory Park to practice methods of accounting for wintering birds.
As part of the “Ornithology” discipline, the students learned to make entries in a field diary and identified six bird species inhabiting the park during winter.
The students didn’t come empty-handed; they brought treats for the birds and refilled their feeders. Members of the university’s birdwatching club have been participating in the Kazakh Association for the Conservation of Biodiversity’s “Grains of Warmth” initiative for several years.
Students encouraged other city residents to help birds survive the winter by feeding them and giving them a chance to see spring.
