The Scientific Research Center for Problems of Ecology and Biology (SRC PEB) at the Department of Natural Sciences, the “Birdwatchers Club,” and the “Nauryzum” Environmental Protection Organization, with the active participation of faculty and students, celebrated International Bird Day, coinciding with Science Week, which is currently underway at the university.
At the university, since the founding of the “Birdwatchers Club” in 2007, celebrating “Bird Day” has become a tradition and is part of the department’s work plans. Every year, a Bird of the Year is chosen in our country and worldwide. The Bird of the Year for 2023 in Kazakhstan is the bluebird, kokkus.
First-year master's students in the “Biology” program, Malika Bekmaganbet and Tatyana Sokolovskaya, conducted an intellectual game for first- to third-year students in the “Biology,” “Biology-Chemistry,” and “Geography” programs, with the goal of drawing attention to birds and the problems of preserving their habitats.
Students learned about the work of the SRC PEB and the “Birdwatchers Club” (led by Tatyana Bragina, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor, and Maria Ruleva, Master of Biology, Senior Lecturer). Winners of the intellectual game were awarded certificates of honor.
